The Coronation Egg is the most famous and celebrated of Faberge creations. It was made to honor the Russian Tsar Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra’s coronation ceremony. The surprise concealed in the egg is a removable replica of the Imperial coach used by Alexandra on her entry into Moscow to her coronation at the Uspensky Cathedral. The egg was displayed in the Empress’ apartment at the Winter Palace. The price of the Coronation Egg was estimated at $24 million.
